Protecting ourselves from the sun is a must! Getting outdoor sunlight often lifts the mood for many of us. However, there are important reasons why dermatologists insist so much on sun protection.

 

Here are some of those reasons:

Countless studies have proven that excessive exposure to UV rays causes damage to cell DNA, leading to mutations that result in skin cancer.

The cumulative duration of sun exposure throughout life is crucial in the formation of many skin cancers.

Intermittent but intense UV exposure, especially severe sunburns during the first 10 years of life, are significant risk factors for malignant melanoma (the most dangerous form of skin cancer). Apart from that, it leads to pigmentation (darkening) of the skin, cancer precursor lesions, deep wrinkles, and early skin aging.
