What we need to know about UVA, UVB, and UVC rays, which are the UV (Ultraviolet) rays emitted by the sun, the necessity of which for the continuity of life is unquestionable:

UVA

  • Responsible for early skin aging by damaging collagen that provides firmness to the deeper layers (dermis) of the skin and elastin fibers that give elasticity to the skin.
  • Has a mild to moderate carcinogenic effect.
  • Passes through glass (UVB cannot pass through).
  • Responsible for tanning.

UVB

  • Main cause of sunburn.
  • Has a strong carcinogenic effect.
  • Cannot pass through glass.
  • During summer months, the intensity of UVB reaching the Earth increases between 11 AM and 3 PM (UVA intensity remains constant).

UVC

  • Does not reach the Earth’s surface as it is filtered by the atmosphere.
